The Fun Pimps are happy to announce that we'll be participating as an exhibitor at TwitchCon 2022 - San Diego! So, at this point in time, my review is negative as I believe the experience new players will have is diminished from that of several years ago when I started playing. But because I loved it, it's such a shame to see it go in what I think is the wrong direction. Of course, you always get bored of any game at some point. I write such a long review because I loved the game and have played it for several hours. The core game should have been settled on by now. I know modern gaming allows us to have new content brought to us by frequent updates, which is great, but 7 Days to Die's updates are often insubstantial or unnecessary. They should really start clean with a new project, since they can't decide on the basic workings of this game. They should just get this game out the door and done. And unnecessarily reworking basic mechanics, as mentioned above, is a waste of time. There are always a lot of updates to graphical assets, but I think this is a waste of time. IMO they should focus on fixing the bugs and ironing out the jankiness that honestly characterises the game at this point. They want to add other NPCs, like bandits, and other features, but this has been several years and detracts from reaching a polished, complete game. I'm not saying they were necessarily better, but this time span serves to demonstrate the lack of vision which the developers started out with. While a lot of content has been added over the years, I think the main gameplay experience/loop hasn't been improved upon since the early alphas 8+ years ago. the infamous rework of how jars and waters will work. The developers fail to communicate their reasons for implementing these systems, some of which are quite silly frankly, e.g. In recent alphas (alpha 20 going into 21 at the time of writing), the developers have reworked fundamental mechanics and systems, which might have been justified, but at the same time I think most fans of this game would say "If it ain't broke don't fix it". The direction this game is headed is changing, however. This game has provided with many hours of fun over the years, the sandbox element being that which made me want to play for hours at a time.

I really hope to update this in the future, as I hope the game and the staff can commit to the players who thoroughly do enjoy this game. I can't personally recommend it right now because of the current state of their interaction with fans. It doesn't seem that way at all and The Fun Pimps haven't had any valid response that is respectable.
If it was exploit fixing or overwhelmingly bad for the game, then sure, I get that. Many playstyles have been rendered unplayable because of this attitude. While they promote this game as a sandbox game, they don't like when players play the game in any way outside of what they want you to play. This isn't the first time these sorts of changes have been made, either. The responses that concerned players get are often lacking information or mocking/insulting. They are currently making changes to systems that don't need changed. That said, the staff at The Fun Pimps, seem to have lost the vision at what makes this game so good. I won't lie, my friends and I have had a lot of fun with this game. It's fun and exhilarating on that first horde night. There's something so sweet about that early game struggle that keeps you trying new starts. Let me start by saying, "I love this game." It's very fun and engaging, especially the first few times you play.
